How can I sell hand-crafted jewelry in Japan?

Hello, I'm Kerry, I make some nifty jewelry, and I love Japan!

Aside from maybe teaching English as a way to survive in Japan, I'd like to find market outlets for the silver and gold jewelry which I've been making for many years.

Since I am living on disability in the US, I am cash-poor for business development, but I do have a few samples and a small stock of merchandise.

Since the Japanese seem so brand-name identified, I am concerned that my stuff might not catch on without a lot of effort. Aside from gift shop places that have those-rental display boxes, can anyone suggest shops in major urban areas that might buy or take jewelry consignments?

Just taking a moment to say hi to the group. i'm a voice over artist, and I've been interested in Japanese language and culture for years. I've studied the language for about 9 years. I used to work at a Japanese bank in California and sometimes I got a chance to translate between the Japanese and English speaking staff.

I'm off now to look at some of the past postings and learn more about the group!

Software Work in Tokyo

I just came back from a 3 week stint in Japan and absolutely LOVED it. Seriously thinking of moving over there for a little while (6months - 2 years). I'm an Oracle applications software developer. One possibility is trying to do Oracle consulting over there, but I'd like to do something new.

Anyone have any recommendations on getting a software position in Tokyo? Also, how tough is the business culture in Japan? That's the one warning I get - it's a great place to visit, but very tough to work in. Any truth to that? Maybe if I worked for an American software company.

Thanks for any guidance... I'm just beginning my research.

I started doing business with / in Japan in 84 when I lived there for three years (ran s/w R&D for Computervision Japan) then moved on to developing and managing distributor networks for two software firms - Programart (mainframe s/w, sales manager for Asia/Pacific) and Novadigm (enterprise & intranet s/w, sales manager for Asia/Pacific/Latin America). I'm currently the sale manager for an intellectual property [patents] consulting firm and am looking to get back into working directly with Japan - project by project, part time or full time.

I'm Brian, I live in Osaka, I currently work localizing console games. I've been with my company for 2.5 years, and the localization work has been my primary task for the past half year or so. Prior to that I worked as an Art Director.
